Electrical Baseboard heaters do require some
maintenance, although not as much as some of the other types of heating
systems. A huge fire safety precaution to be taken is to ensure that
there is adequate air circulation around the heating units and that all
combustible household objects such as furniture and curtains are kept
clear from the heating units by at least 4 to 6 inches.
Annual Service
- Ensure heaters are not physically damaged.
Damaged units should be replaced.
- If electrical panel is fused, check that fuses at
panel are not overrated. Generally household electrical heating
branch circuits have 20amp. fuses.
- Clean debris, material storage and dust from the
baseboard heaters.
- Check that heaters are properly secured and not
loose.
- Make sure there is no loose wiring.
- Move objects and furniture away to allow for better
air circulation.
- Ensure installed curtains and blinds are short and
will not drape over the heating units.
- Test all units to make sure they are working.
Periodic Service
- Clean debris, material storage and dust from the
baseboard heaters.
- Ensure installed curtains and blinds are short and
will not drape over the heating units.
