Landscaping maintenance

For a new house, always wait at least a year before proceeding with major terrain and landscaping improvements.  The excavation, backfilling and heavy vehicle traffic during the construction stage have disturbed the ground and the soil has to be given a chance to settle.

If you are not comfortable performing the maintenance, contact a qualified landscaper or lawn care specialist to do the work.

Spring Landscaping

  1. Remove dead branches.
  2. Remove winter protection from shrubs.
  3. Check sapling tree supports.
  4. Apply fertilizer and seed bare lawn areas.  Cover seed with a thin layer of black earth.

Fall Landscaping

  1. Apply fall fertilizer.
  2. Fill all ground holes and tripping hazards with fresh sod or suitable material.
  3. Install shrub and tree winter protection.  Consult your local nursery.
  4. Trim overgrown vegetation and tree branches.
  5. Remove dead vegetation and rake leaves.
  6. Clean gutters.
